The Athlete Factory

The Athlete Factory

I could not talk more highly of this place. If you've read some of my other blog posts you've read about my strength training and working with a coach... The Athlete Factory is where all that magic happens!

It is an amazing facility and I honestly think it has made a HUGE difference in my running performance.

I started going here after I won 1st for my age group at the Be There Races - Spring Trio 15km (more deets on that race in my 2017 till now post). Shortly after this I set up an appointment with Amanda - who quickly became one of my favorite people. She showed me around the gym, explained their approach to strength training, elite performance and their ability to help a variety of athletes, even how they've helped Professional Athletes, World Champions and Olympic Champions. She asked me a bunch of questions about my training and she asked me the big question.. "What is your goal?" To qualify for the Boston Marathon!

I was pretty nervous for our first session but Amanda made me feel incredibly comfortable. I warmed up on the bike for a bit and then we went right into it. I learned "factory" drills and the importance of them, agility drills with cones and worked on front squats. She assessed everything and was very helpful in correcting my form, giving me tips and a TON of information. I'm the kind of person where if I learn about things, I'm more likely to do it and the things I am passionate about I want to learn EVERYTHING about.

You say you can make me a faster and more efficient runner? TELL ME ALL THE THINGS!

I now know a lot about my body and how it works. I've learned about slow twitch and fast twitch muscle fibers, how to strengthen them and why their important - especially for endurance athletes. I know why functional strength training is so important, having a strong core is crucial and how powering through my hamstrings will make me a better runner.

I had 4 sessions with Amanda and then we decided I would be coming in every other week and then would train on my own as well. She created a program for me to work on strength and agility and explained why each were important. This program has changed a couple times depending on what I wanted to work on and what was needed but the support was always there, she even encourages me to take a video so I can see my form and to text her about any questions or needed information. I love this! It has also made me a lot more comfortable going to the gym on my own because I know what I need to do and how to do it. I like plan so this was a huge relief.

Working with Amanda has also been amazing just for encouragement reasons. Because she's a triathlete she knows how important training is, how endurance athletes think, she understands the struggles and what it is like to have big goals. I cannot tell you how comforting this is and it is such a big reason why I trust her and The Athlete Factory so much.

So this is what my program looks like now.... It might seem confusing but it works for me, is making me a better runner, I understand how to do each of them and the importance of them. I love it.

Now I'm seeing Amanda every Tuesday and I'm in a pair with another young woman who is an endurance bicyclist - we've also joked about becoming a triathlon relay team.

Honestly, I can't say enough about this place. If you want more info, let me know!
